2. Community Work Project

Homelessness for individuals (more so than homeless families) is often accompanied by alcohol or drug
dependency or mental illness, all of which complicate reentry into functioning society.  Simple work
projects help to relieve the boredom of life on the streets, counter the effects of addiction, and provide a
baseline of financial support.   Work lends dignity to life, even if it is menial labor.

It is for that reason that we intend to try to do the work of grooming and maintaining Western Cemetery
with as many people as possible rather than as few.  We will use adults and teenagers from the community
to do the work.  To minimize the continuing cost of equipment breakdown, hand tools and reel lawnmowers
(no motors)will be used.  We estimate that we will use 400 3-hour worker days over the period of six months.

We also expect to have need for volunteer groups from the church and community for special projects.
